I don't remember exactly when it started - this desire I have to
re-purpose stuff. My definition of "re-purposing" is to take an
item that had a purpose in its first life and use it for something
totally different in its reincarnation. You'll substitute creativity for money - and come up with a better result. A couple of good examples
would be turning a suitcase into a footstool, and a ceiling
globe into candlescape - stunning home decor
accessories. These can be great compliments to other beautiful home accents.
Today, I know it is a result of wanting to spend a little but have
a lot. To prevent perfectly good items, once re-purposed, from
ending up in a landfill. To have a home that is full of items that
not one other person on the planet would have an exact copy
of. Sorta like getting unique wholesale home decor. Actually,
it's not "sorta" like that - it IS that!
And I am accomplishing that goal on a regular basis. I buy the
stuff by the box
loads that no one wants in its current condition. "Box lots" at auctions are my best friends. If you haven't
yet had the pleasure of attending an auction, a "box lot" is a
box full of stuff that almost no one wants. I usually pay a few
dollars a box.
And I'll buy any box that has at least one thing in it that is
worth (to me, at least) the few dollars. I can't count how many
times I have been pleasantly surprised by what ELSE I found in
the box. I don't remember ever being disappointed by any box
that I've bought. It's like getting home decor for wholesale - or
less! I've even gotten inexpensive wedding decorations and
supplies.
I am doing one of my passions by sharing ideas on this
website through my library and in my blog. Feel free to share yours as well. I am constantly amazed by the creativity of fellow
re-purposers. I bet you've never been called THAT before!
Well, today, I officially anoint you as a fellow re-purposer. May
we all live long, and re-purpose to achieve an elevation of our spirit!
