I had to laugh when I read the posts from visitors to my new blog. I have called people “repurposers” before, but never have I been called a “Junkie” – and it SO suits me! Time for a “Junkie” story to prove it. Years ago, I bought an old victorian house to put my shop in. I took my lead designer to it to see it right after the purchase. She looked at me like I had two heads! And I understood why, to some extent. The house had been previously rented to four college kids who used one of the walls as a dart board. That was just one of many uh… “different” things they did.She thought this was the biggest purchase of “junk” I had made to that point. She could not see how that house could EVER be a quaint gift shop. But I could. I call that “vision”.
Vision to me, is just another way of saying “creativity”. Having vision means leaving a little piece of yourself in everything you do. That little piece of you will be returned to you many-fold.
And speaking of “vision”, I’m having one right now…about newspaper. Newspaper!?!?!?!? That’s right – newspaper. And not to line the floor of your bird cage with, either. I’m seeing newspaper as:
* Gift wrap adorned with stamped shapes, bows, silk flowers and/or _____ (fill in the blank)
* A main ingredient in making a “no dig” garden And how do YOU see it?
By the way, that’s me in the store once it was done. That wall used to be the uh… “dartboard”. I think it transformed it a great display area – just like the “vision” I had.

I use decoupage’ to decorate many things with newspaper or old wallpaper designs. For instance, I’d decoupage a metal mailbox with newspaper and decorated it with some unique stamps I had saved from around the world. I then spray all my projects with an acrylic CLEAR spray paint to seal and water proof the mailbox or other outdoor items.
I also used newspaper as a background in a scrapbook for my kids. I put a small piece of paper lace over that (centered). Then I clued articles to the background to show off the times my children had their name in the newspaper (usually sport events). There are other events which can be done the same, like a wedding announcement, any family mentions etc.
