So I’m sitting in a doctor’s office today waiting to be seen and I pick up a magazine with an article that talks a little bit about recycling, and this gets me thinking. “Repurposing Can Mean Recycling”. Because of that magazine article, I found out that plastic soda bottles can be recycled into clothing. Who knew?
I say on my site that one of the main reasons that I like repurposing is because it keeps perfectly good materials out of landfills. Recycling does that as well. And there are more ways to recycle than I had actually given thought to.
I am always thinking about the boxes, bottles and cans that are picked up from my house. I think of having a garage sale as repurposing and I think A LOT about repurposing when coming up with new designs.
But here are some ideas that had kinda slipped my mind until now. If they had slipped yours as well, feel free to re-acquaint yourself through these sites:
* If you get a new cell phone, you can recycle your old one. It can be sent to various places - many of which help people in times of emergency. Take a peek at http://www.recyclewirelessphones.org/
* Another thing that’s hard to repurpose and to recycle are batteries. The rechargable kind and the alkaline kind can both find their way to places that can recycle them. Try both http://www.earth911.org/ and http://www.biggreenbox.com/ for ways and places to recycle those.
If you find great recycling ideas or sites, feel free to share them with me and I’ll make sure others know about them, too. We’re all in this together - and we do make a difference.

Nancy

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article By Design : Repurposing Can Mean Recycling, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
