Good for the Guys - Dominos Tray

Just in case you were thinking that the designs I come up with are just a little to “girly” for the guys following this blog (and you know who you are!), have I got a great “Guy” design for YOU!
This project needs the following ingredients:
1. A wooden tray. Mine was originally a Chinese tray and had great brass hardware at each corner.
2. Black acrylic paint.
3. 6 boxes of dominos (your mileage will vary based on the size of your tray).
4. Hot glue and a glue gun.
Once the tray was dry (it took about 3 hours), I started gluing in the dominos. I would lay two facing one way, and the next two would be perpendicular to the first two. Click on the picture of the tray to see the larger version. You can probably see the “zig zag” type of pattern I made.
I would carefully pick each dominos, too - making sure that all the “6’s” didn’t land in the same area, nor did all the “3’s”, or “1’s” or any of the numbers.
If you start with a nice, flat tray the dominos will glue down nice and flat as well. I used hot glue for this - and had no problems with it at all. Don’t use too much glue, though. It will come up between the small spaces between the dominos when you press them flat onto the tray.
Once completed, this is a great accent for a game or family room, or a gift for a guy who appreciates unique, personal gifts. “Game” decor is a hot trend right now and this tray could easily be your “inspiration” piece to add a little of that style to your decor.

Nancy,
I love your tray for the guys! This might want to make them stay in bed a day or so longer, ha.
Where my dh used to work, at a body shop, they had pictures of old cars on their advertising, which were large enough to frame with a mat in a 8×10 frame. I am Queen of the anything is a dollar stores, and had bought some glitter glue, three in a pkg. one was a silver color, so I put this on some of the old car’s crome, and framed them for him, and put them in the room where he likes to see if he can repair family’s computers, as he is disabled after kidney cancer. He noticed them the same day I put them up, can you believe it? Keep the frugal ideas coming!

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article By Design : Good for the Guys - Dominos Tray, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
