Eggs – Marblized Over Easy

I have no idea why I don’t make hard boiled eggs more often.
They’re easy to make. They’re handy to have for something quick to eat. And they taste great. This time of year, I do make them and I even like to decorate them (I know -you’re shocked!). This year, I did something I had not ever done to eggs before – I marblized them. (Click on the picture to see a bigger view.)
This was MUCH easier to do than I would have thought. You’ll need eggs, dye colors, cups to hold the colors in and paper towel. Here’s how you do the marblizing:
1. Hard boil your eggs.
2. Cool to a handling temperature.
3. Mix up your dye colors in separate cups. Follow the instructions on the box of the food coloring you are using or the egg dye you bought. You need VERY LITTLE of each color to do this process.
4. Tear off paper towel pieces big enough to cover an egg. I only needed one square for mine, but if you’re using those half-sheet sized paper towels, you’ll need two.
5. Dampen a paper towel square with water, and then drop some dye on your wet spot with a spoon. Do this several times, using a variety of colors on each paper towel. The colors will bleed together in spots. You want that to happen.
6. Wrap your egg in the paper towel and let it sit. I was doing a dozen eggs, so I did them one at a time and let them sit while I did the next and the next and the next.
7. Unwrap each egg and repeat the process *IF* you have spots that you want to change (perhaps you have more white in one spot than you want. Wrap your dyed paper towel square around the egg so that your white spot is covered with colored paper towel.)
The lines left by the wrapped paper towel will add to your marbling affect, as will the overlapping of colors that will happen. When you do this, share pictures with me. I’d love to see!
