Window to a Coffee Table

The table from the topIf there is one room in my house that contains the most unique of my designs, it’s my office. I can decorate with reckless abandon there, and I do. One of the very first things that I designed for that space was a coffee table. The table is composed of all recycled parts (except the plexiglass top – that I had cut to size.)

And they are “interesting” parts, too:

1 – Six-pane window with the glass still intact

6 – Matching antique trays that will fit inside each pane of the window (You use LOTS of different stuff, though, if you don’t have the trays – postcards, buttons, shells, wallpaper cutouts, photos – the options are endless.)

1 – bench seat from a vanity with a leg spread small than your window

1 – piece of plexiglass the same size as your window

1 – Acrylic paint in your choice of colors

1 - Piece of marbled wallpaper slightly larger than the bench seat (Optional)

Ok, let’s get started by painting the window with a fresh coat of paint – any color you choose. Let that dry.

If your bench has a fabric seat, remove the fabric and stuffing from the bench (and leave the wooden base that the fabric was attached to. It will be the lower shelf of your coffee table). Also paint the bench the same color as the window and, once dry, turn the bench upside down, putting its legs in the air.

Using some marbled wallpaper (you could also faux paint a design), cover the lower “shelf” of the table. If you aren’t using wallpaper, just paint the “shelf”.

Once everything is dry, center the window over the upturned bench legs. Set your trays in the window panes and cover with the piece of plexiglass. Your coffee table top and shelf are now ready to display your prized possessions. Click the pictures for a larger picture of what mine looks like.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article By Design : Window to a Coffee Table, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
